Part 1
Dianne and I grew up in the same neighborhood in Denver, Colorado. We met as adults and, just before she headed off to stardom in Los Angeles, she invited me to her grandmother's house for a singing lesson — in the kitchen!
I met the warmhearted, award-winning vocalist again last year before her sound check at Herbst Theatre in San Francisco. (You'll hear the soft roar of the drums in the background outside her dressing room.) We began by talking about the music for her 2008 CD release, how she chooses songs and the importance of lyrics.
